17th c. English Portrait of a Gentleman Oil on Canvas

Oil on Canvas.

Mid/late 17th century.

The painting has a lovely look. Lots of quality to the face and eyes, along with the white lace.

The picture has undergone some previous restoration to the paint, with additional pigment added to a few areas on the face and to the blue velvet. The canvas has been affixed to a new lining and a heavy varnish added. There are a few marks to the paint as pictured. The picture is on its original stretcher, however has been set in a later gold painted frame. There is some crudeness to the reverse with staples used on the canvas surround rather than tacked. It reads to the stretcher "Uncle of Anne Hyde". The picture is being offered as found, however is of a lovely quality and deserves restoration and reframing
