Antique Mahogany Inlaid Writing Box

Offered for sale an English late nineteenth century writing box. High quality mahogany case with decorative swirling satinwood & holly inlaid motifs to the top. The box locks on its original key and opens to reveal a splendid writing slope within. The slope with a super green tooled leather writing surface. Compartments within for pens and inkwell. The writing surface lifts up to reveal storage space below for papers.

Offered in good condition. Sound structure and a lovely mellow colour to the mahogany with a fine patina. A few age related marks to the mahogany as pictured. Original lock & key. The inside with particularly clean writing surface. The small catch to keep the writing surface locked to the lid is missing. To the base is a crack, only visible when the surface is lifted. The base with a green baize lining.
